Capone Ink Bali Tattoo Aftercare Guide

Congratulations on your new tattoo from Capone Ink Bali! To ensure your tattoo heals perfectly and maintains its quality, please follow these aftercare instructions. For any additional questions, feel free to contact us on Instagram at @caponeinkbali.

Pro Tip: If you’re staying in a hotel, switch to sheets you don't mind getting ink on – unless you want to explain to the hotel why their linens look like a crime scene. Save yourself the charge and the awkward conversation!

You will need:

  • Unscented antibacterial/antimicrobial liquid hand soap
  • Ointment such as Bepanthen First Aid or a tattoo-specific aftercare product like Dr Pickles (Do not use products with aloe, antiseptic/iodine ointment, Lubriderm, ChapStick, Vaseline, or haemorrhoid cream)
  • Unscented mild skin lotion

Note: We also offer recommended aftercare products at Capone Ink Bali. Our staff will explain how to use them when you visit the shop.

Immediately After: Your artist may have applied a bandage to your tattoo for your journey home. Leave the bandage on for about an hour; remove it once you are home. It is normal for your tattoo to bleed slightly and be a bit swollen and tender. After washing your hands, remove the dressing and gently wash your tattoo with warm water and unscented antibacterial/antimicrobial soap. Rinse thoroughly (do not use bar soap as it can harbor bacteria). Avoid using a washcloth or any abrasive material; use only your fingertips. Gently pat it dry with a clean towel. With a clean hand, apply a thin layer of ointment to keep the tattoo moist but not smothered (wipe away any excess with a paper towel).

In the Coming Days: Tenderness and swelling may persist for several days. It is also normal for the tattoo to weep (this may stain clothing). Reapply the ointment every three hours for the next few days or until the tattoo starts to flake or peel. Wash and medicate your tattoo as described above 2-3 times daily. Shower normally but wash your tattoo last.

After several days, the tattoo may begin to flake and peel. Do not pick at the flaking skin; let it shed naturally to avoid scabbing and loss of ink. Once peeling begins, switch to a mild, unscented lotion instead of ointment to keep the tattoo moist. Continue to wash the tattoo regularly. Avoid sunbathing, tanning, and soaking in a tub, pool, jacuzzi, river, etc., for three weeks.

A Healed Tattoo: Healing times vary, but generally, your tattoo should be fully healed within 1-2 weeks. Raised areas may persist for several weeks or months but will typically settle over time. Continue to care for your tattoo by avoiding excessive sun exposure, which can cause fading and irritation.

Note: Healing tattoos are open wounds and are susceptible to infection. Monitor your tattoo throughout the healing process. If you notice any signs of infection, contact your healthcare provider immediately. Symptoms of infection include excessive redness or swelling, severe itching, pus at the tattoo site, or fever.
